Quarter 2
This homework assignment in this photo is to choose either it's a good idea to raise soda tax or a bad idea.
This is considered an "argumentative writing" assignment because you are arguing [explaining] why you go with that decision and some people may disagree with your answer so you are arguing your answer. For my decision, I argued that it is a good idea to raise the price of soft drinks because if you drink too much soft drinks, then that may probably result in you being diabetic. |
This photograph shows if it is a good idea to read a book before or after a movie. This is another "decision based question" where you have to choose which one is better. Again, this is considered an "argumentative writing" assignment because you are arguing why you go with that decision and some people may disagree with your answer so you are defending your answer. For this particular question I picked to read a book before the movie because there are some parts of a book where the movie doesn't show. The book had more details than the movie was. The movies are okay, but I wished it had most of the details as the book does.

3 Quotes in Paragraphs
“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m possible”
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started”
What quote means to me is that if you want to get ahead, you first need to get started. Pretty much everyone knows how to succeed, but choose not to do so. I think that if someone can do this everyone can do it. I chose this quote because it is very true in many ways than one. One of the ways that this quote is true is that if you want to get something done, you have to get started. I also chose this quote not because its very true, but because this is always what you must do in school. I hope that everyone can remember to get started, finish, and get ahead.
“You have to believe if you want to succeed”
This quote that I made is both motivating and inspirational. My quote is motivating because it teaches you to believe that you could do something and not just give up. My quote is also inspirational because it is true that you have to believe in something to succeed in what it is you’re doing. If you want to achieve and succeed in anything you wish for, then this is the quote you’re looking for. My quote can also be for people who struggle with accomplishing goals. Always remember that if you believe, you can do anything.

3 Moments from my 3 Day Weekend 2/6- 2/8
On the three day weekend, Saturday and Sunday were the gloomiest days out of the three. From time to time while I was working on my projects and assignments, I needed to get done for school, I would peer out my window to see how the weather was like outside. When I needed to look outside my window, I saw trees swaying side to side and a ton of rain falling from the sky. The rain was so deafening that I couldn’t even concentrate on what I was doing. I wish I didn’t look outside my window because the weather made me lazy. After that, I didn’t feel like doing anything at all.

Describing Ten Sounds associated with Winter
In winter, there are many sounds that remind me of winter. One of those sounds are lots of playful children laughing. Another sound I hear is the sound of jingle bells. The third sound I hear is the scraping of snow shovels. Other sounds I hear include strong whipping winds, the clicking of knitting, a fire crackling in a fireplace, the stirring of hot chocolate, the stomping of frozen feet, the crunching of people walking over snow, and the snow falling from the roof. All of the sounds mentioned are associated with winter because it is Christmas time, it is cold, and there is a lot of snow around.

A Story using The Variety of Sentences
The hill the house was on dropped off suddenly about twenty feet from the back door, and you could see for miles and miles. A booming bell echoed from the castle across the grounds signaling the end of the lesson, and the class separated. He got up suddenly and began pacing back and forth, slapping his pockets. He breathed slowly and with great labor through his wide-open mouth.

A booming bell echoed from the castle across the grounds signaling the end of the lesson, and the class separated. He got up suddenly and began pacing back and forth, slapping his pockets. He breathed slowly and with great labor through his wide-open mouth.
In this assignment I had to use different types of sentences and use the types of sentences in a sentence. This was a group effort because each one of us had to create a sentence and combine them all up. I chose to showcase this because it tests out my sentence making abilities.
Easter Break Paragraph
Last Saturday, I went to the Thank You Dinner for volunteers. The Thank You Dinner honors all the hard-working volunteers around the Epiphany parish. I went to the Thank You Dinner because I volunteer serving at the Altar of the Lord at Church being an altar server. When I entered the cafeteria, I could see loads of drinks, such as soda, and abundant amounts of food also. After everyone has gotten food and had started gobbling away at the delicious food, Father Eugene went up to the front. He said that we should sing with him to pass time of eating. All of us started singing and I have to say Father Eugene would really do well in “American Idol.” After he sang it was time for a raffle.
At first, the people who were shouting out ticket numbers weren’t yelling out my ticket number, so I lost confidence. The people called out my mom’s ticket number (she was there with me) and she won a Starbucks gift card. She then assured me that I would win something, and so I listened. Then, out of the blue they called out my ticket number and I won the same prize as my mom got. I jumped up and down with joy.
I then resumed eating the juicy chicken legs that I still haven’t finished. After I had eaten all the food on my plate I told my mom that I wanted to head home since it was getting late. We both sauntered to the bus stop, with full bellies.

Come gaze at this six bedroom house with solar panels, two spacious bathrooms, and a vividly green backyard. There will be an open-house showcasing this majestic house to the public. We are expecting a large crowd of people because the price of this house is dirt cheap with the selling price of only $50,000. It was even featured on the news! This house also has a unique name which is “Tree Roots,” a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. It has this particular name because of the brown color of the house. Come to this public open-house I guarantee you’ll love this eco-friendly home.

"Just Write" English Assignment A Jurassic Dream
“Where am I?” I mumbled to myself.
“Looks like I am in another dream of mine,” I said to myself.
Once I discovered I was dreaming, I looked around and saw a lot of odd things. I saw many different kinds of flowers and dinosaurs, out of all the animals, dinosaurs. These dinosaurs though were not irritated nor angry, they were all prancing around the radiant flowers. I was amazed at how they were all stomping on the flowers without destroying a single one. Then, suddenly without realizing, a dinosaur turned and saw me. After that, it started sprinting towards me.

My Painting (Paragraph)
This painting made by me is called “The Golden Age” because of how old the Golden Gate Bridge is. Golden age, I am pretty sure of means someone who has reached the age of fifty. I didn’t know what to paint really, but I went back to my hobbies where I liked to gaze at grand structures.then I remembered the Golden Gate Bridge. I painted everything normally except the “arches” of the bridge didn’t go as planned and it looked horrible. At first I tried to paint a sunset, but I thought that would be too simple. I painted the color of the sun during a sunset, but the sky was different. For the sky, I tried to paint dots of different colors. I then realized that dots of various colors aren’t enough and there were white space. I tried to paint the sky brown which I actually adore. This was how my painting came into existence. |
In these two sections, I am showcasing my Golden Gate Bridge painting. I am showcasing this because I want to show how good my painting skills are and explain how my painting came into existence.
My Black History Month Essay
Nelson Mandela
For my Black History Month essay the person who I am choosing is Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. I choose Nelson Mandela because he was South Africa’s first black chief executive and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. I also choose him because Nelson was a south African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and a philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Apartheid meant (in South Africa) a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race. This is why I choose Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela for my Black History Month essay.
The person who influenced Nelson Mandela was Walter Sisulu. He seemed to be the main person who influenced Nelson’s life time and time again. He believed that the ANC (The African National Congress) was the means to create change in South Africa. Nelson would be proud to be in any group Sisulu was in. The ANC created a charter called African Claims, which called for full citizenship for all Africans, the right to buy land, and the appeal of all discriminatory legislation.
Nelson Mandela made the world a better place by his role in this slow and contentious transition throughout the world. It cannot be understated nor truly understood by most who did not witness his impact firsthand. He knew just how drastic a sacrifice it would take to free his country of a despotic white ruling government in a country composed overwhelmingly of Black citizens, and he was more than willing to endure it. He is one of the most inspirational figures in history. We celebrate his unrivaled impact on human rights and the world as a whole.
A quote Nelson Mandela said was “It always seems impossible until its done.” Sometimes you want to do something and you find ways to do it. Later on you’ll be amazed to find out that you actually can do something that’s impossible to do. In the long run there’s a solution how to solve a particular situation. Sometimes there’s a mystery hidden in some things you do. Once you unlock the mystery you’ll find out there’s a solution to
every problem.
In conclusion, I choose him because he is a model for South Africa and he did a lot of great things like stopping the apartheid. I will always remember Nelson Mandela as a forgiving person.

In this essay, I was writing about Nelson Mandela. Since it was Black History Month my class and I, 6-W, had to write about a person of black skin color who inspired and changed the world. I chose him because he is a model for South Africa and he did a lot of great things like stopping the apartheid. Apartheid meant (in South Africa) a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race. I am showcasing this essay because it teaches all of us that Nelson Mandela was a forgiving person who stopped at nothing to know what was right for South Africa.
Why Should Students have Less Homework?- Persuasive Essay
Everyone always wonder should students have less homework? Yes, I think that students like us should have less homework because most of the time we have to struggle with a bunch of school-related work that are due the next day. There are many reasons to explain why students should receive less homework.
First, having too much homework can affect how long you sleep. Many of us have so much homework that it affects how long we sleep. As everyone knows it’s vital, especially for children and teens, to get at least 8 hours of sleep each day. Getting 8 hours of sleep everyday is important because everyone, children and teenagers, are still growing up and developing. Staying up late and doing homework is also why, sometimes, it is difficult for us students to stay awake and focused in class. I myself find it difficult to also stay concentrated and focused during school because I too am a victim of this. I think that all of us should receive less homework to get the sleep that all students need and to grow and develop properly.
In addition, stress and anxiety are also factors that result from abundant amounts of homework. I think that all teachers should realize that students can lose their mind over the bountiful amounts of homework they are giving. Pretty much everybody suffers from stress because of their homework. Stress can cause lack of sleep, slipping grades, fatigue, unhealthy eating habits, depression, and many more factors. To me, this is very dreadful to not only myself, but to everyone who tries to devote their time and effort in finishing their homework. Anxiety on the other can lead to questions asking yourself, “Can I finish everything in time to get to sleep in time?” and, “Will my answers to my homework be correct?” Anxiety causes nervousness which is never a good thing while you are still learning in school. If we all have gotten less homework we wouldn’t even have to worry about stress or anxiety. Without stress or anxiety, all students would all be cheerful and joyful.
Finally, having too much homework can take away and/or reduce a student’s free time and social activity. Parents do tend to worry about why their children aren’t talking to them at all. If you didn’t know already this is not a good thing. This creates less time for sports and after school activities. Family time is also decreased which can lead to family conflict. Hanging out with friends is decreased, so that means there is less socializing. I think that students also want time to relax and enjoy other activities. To achieve this goal of having the time to relax and spend time enjoying other activities, there has to be a decrease in the amount of homework.
In conclusion, I hope that that all teachers realize that it is not easy to finish a large amount of homework. They should know that homework can cause all these complications and that this takes a toll on all of the student’s health, thinking, and learning skills. I also hope that they know what happens when they give a plentiful amount of homework. I think that every single teacher should remember this statement, “Homework is like taking away a student’s childhood, no one wants that, do they?”

8TH GRADE English SCHOOLWORK STARTS HERE
Quarter 1
My Personal Narrative
All the way back in 3rd Grade, I had a goal. That goal was to get First Honors, but it was never accomplished in 3rd Grade. Beginning 4th Grade I said to myself, “It’s another new school year and I need to make the most of it.” When I said this to myself I was determined to study really hard and never ever give up on anything that I was doing.
There are many reasons to explain why I set this objective of getting First Honors. Firstly, I set this goal because I wanted to follow the legacy of my sister, Marcy. My sister has achieved many awards as a student at Epiphany School, such as First Honors from 4th-8th Grade and a member of NJHS. Secondly, I have always wanted to make my parents proud because they both work hard to send me to a marvelous school like Epiphany. Lastly, I wanted to achieve this goal because I wanted to feel a deep sense of accomplishment because Second Honors wasn’t enough for me.
Two steps were needed in order to finish this goal. The first step that I took is to use my agenda more to keep track of all of my assignments. I also used my agenda to become more organized as well. The second step that I took was to bring home all the supplies needed to complete my homework and study beforehand for a test or a quiz. When I am finished with all my homework or assignments, I would take in some fresh air and walk with my mom to John Mclaren Park.
Once my objective of getting First Honors was completed, I noticed a high improvement in my grades from B’s to A’s. I also found out that I was participating more in class than I used to in 3rd Grade. Something else I enhanced was my reading comprehension from reading all my books for homework. Next, I became faster and more efficient with finishing my homework and other tasks because of my agenda. Without my agenda I would be always disorganized! Finally, I saw that I was paying attention more to my teacher, Mr. Gee.
Having said all of this, I can now say that I have successfully completed this goal of obtaining the status of First Honors. My family and I were overjoyed that I accomplished my goal. After I reached this objective, I can say that my patience and perseverance ultimately paid off. I was also proud of myself for reaching this monumental point in my life.

In this narrative, I am showcasing my narrative! In this assignment, I had to pick a topic I had to pick a topic I wanted to write my personal narrative about. I chose the topic, "What are the goals you had when you were younger." I chose to showcase this piece so you can know more about me.
Six Pillars of Character Essay
In today’s youth, there are a lot of things that they are lacking. In my opinion, I think respect is lacking in today’s youth. I think respect is lacking in today’s youth because every single day I observe children and teens not saying thank you to anyone, not even their parents! There are many reasons to explain why today’s youth needs to be filled with more respect.
First, barely any teens or children act in a respectful way towards their parents. For example, they don’t even say thank you or please when they want something from their parents. Also, children and teens talk back, yell, argue, refusing requests, and ignoring their parents is highly disrespectful. I think all of this is happening because they see other people do these terrible things and they want to copy them. Another reason why I think all of this is happening is because older children are going into puberty and while in puberty they tend to have mood swings. This doesn’t mean that all the children and teens should act disrespectfully towards their parents. Today’s youth needs to show compassion and love for their parents because they sacrifice a lot of their time just for you.
Second, teens act impolite towards other adults. An example of teens and children acting disrespectful towards other adults is that on the Muni, teens sometimes sit in the front where senior citizens sit and don’t get up when a senior citizen is present. Also, I noticed a teen who stepped on a person’s foot and never said sorry. Something else I observed is that some of the teens walk their dog and leave their dog’s feces in front of our door. Teens, like in these examples, should show respect towards other adults because it is just plain rude and embarrassing. Teens should also act in a courteous and friendly manner to them because if you act this way, then they will show respect for you back.
Third, children and teens act in an insulting manner towards senior and their grandparents. One example of this is when a child didn’t like the the food that his grandma bought for him, he started shouting at her. Also, in Ross, I saw someone’s grandpa buy clothes for their teenage granddaughter and she never said thank you to him. They resulted in having an argument. Children and teens should present positive behavior to the elderly because they can’t do as many things they used to back when they were still an adult. The youth should instead be the ones helping the seniors, not the seniors helping you.
In conclusion, I think the world today needs the youth to show respect to both their parents and grandparents. Showing respect is the least they can do for their parents for all the sacrifices they have done for them. I hope you learned that in the process in reading the essay you realized that not showing respect is a wrong move because all the way from when you were a baby, they started taking care of you. Does that mean you should stop caring about them and shout, yell, speak back, and ignore them? No, you shouldn’t because they really think about you everyday, even your grandparents.
The essay I am displaying is my "Six Pillars of Character" essay. The essay asks the question which pillar of character do you think need more work on? The pillar of character I chose is respect because I think no youth is respectful to their parent anymore. I wanted to present this on my portfolio to show the youth why people should respect their elders more.
Writing Assignment: Quotes Essay
In today’s world, there are many impactful things that occur everyday in our lives. Some of those impactful things is good and some of these impactful things are wrong. As Mahatma Gandhi wrote, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” The people who do these terrible, impactful things really should read and reflect upon this quote. There are many changes I would like to see in the world. One of them is to promote stopping prejudice against other people because of things, such as their skin color. There are also many ways I can bring about these changes in today’s society.
A change that I want to see in the world is reducing discrimination and prejudice. I would like to see this happen because I believe that we are all human beings and we are all equal to each other. The people these days are so focused on money and social media they don’t even pay attention to what is happening in the real world. I truly do believe that people should take breaks in their lives see what is happening in the real world. Everyone, still today, are acting like African Americans have “diseases” to which we want to stay as far away from them as possible. In my point of view, this is certainly not the case when it comes to African Americans or anybody living. I always look at people and I understand that everybody I meet everyday have their own unique culture, religion, and personality. I can, “Be the change I want to see in the world,” by setting an example of treating everyone how you want to treated.
Second, we should stop all the wars happening in our world today. Wars that are taking place, such as North and South Korea, should be ended. I think that wars are simply pointless and all people are just fighting with each other. In my point of view, instead of long-lasting wars, countries/people should communicate things effectively. If doing this doesn’t work, then they should try again another time and not go to war. Since many wars have killed many people over the years, there is truly no need for wars in our world. I can, “Be the change I want to see in the world,” by saying that wars are very deadly most of the time and there are always alternatives.
Third, we should stop hunger and poverty. This is a very crucial problem in our world because millions of people, young and old, die every year due to malnourishment and missing valuable resources such as clean drinking water and food. This is especially true in Africa and India where they lack many vital things to keep the people there healthy and well. I think that every single person should be like us in the United States where we always have plentiful food and water available. By saying this, everybody should donate food, water, and money to the countries that need it the most because we cannot just sit around waiting for more people to die. To, “Be the change I want to see in the world,” I will stand up for feeding the hungry and the meager of money.
In conclusion, being the change I want to see in the world will just take some time. I am very optimistic about these things I mentioned about war, discrimination, hunger, poverty, and prejudice will come true. I really do agree about what Donald Trump says about less talking and more doing because these things in the world cannot just be talked about anymore. Everyone needs to be changes they want to see in the world. We all need to take certain steps forward from where we are now to halt war, hunger, discrimination, prejudice, and poverty. Together we can end these things.
